All you need to know about Myrtle Essential Oil

“Biblical. Gentle. Quietly extraordinary — the oil of peace and new beginnings.”

The Story Behind the Oil

Myrtle is one of the most scripturally significant plants in all of the Bible. In Isaiah 41:19, God promises to plant myrtle in the wilderness as a sign of His restorative power. In Zechariah’s vision, myrtle trees stand among the horses of God, and an angel of the Lord waits beneath them (Zechariah 1:8-11). Myrtle branches were carried at the Feast of Tabernacles as a symbol of joy, restoration, and abundance. In Nehemiah 8:15, the people of Israel returned from exile carrying myrtle to build their booths.

Myrtus communis — the common myrtle — is a Mediterranean shrub whose steam-distilled leaves and twigs yield an essential oil of remarkable versatility and gentleness. Rich in 1,8-cineole — the same primary compound found in eucalyptus and rosemary — myrtle shares many of their respiratory and antimicrobial properties, but with a softer, more balanced, more approachable character. It is the oil of quiet strength. Of peace after the storm. At Royal Oils, we offer it with deep reverence for both its botanical power and its biblical heritage.

What You’ll Experience

Myrtle Essential Oil has a fresh, clean, sweet-herbaceous aroma with faint floral and camphor-like notes. It is softer and more balanced than eucalyptus, making it one of the most versatile and widely suitable respiratory and cleansing oils in the collection.

  • A beautifully fresh, gently clarifying aroma — promotes a sense of clear, open breathing when diffused. Gentler than eucalyptus globulus, making it well-suited for children, sensitive individuals, and those new to respiratory oils.
  • Rich in 1,8-cineole — the compound associated with respiratory-supportive, anti-inflammatory aromatic properties found also in eucalyptus and rosemary. Myrtle delivers these properties in a softer, more accessible form.
  • Listed by respected aromatherapy researchers as one of the most 1,8-cineole-rich essential oils available — a natural companion for supporting a sense of ease during seasonal wellness challenges.
  • A powerfully antimicrobial aromatic — widely used in natural cleaning preparations for its fresh scent and naturally purifying properties. A featured ingredient in lemon myrtle varieties of bathroom cleaners and air fresheners.
  • Traditionally used in Mediterranean healing practice for thousands of years — used across ancient Greece and the Arab world as a plant of both healing and celebration.
  • A beautiful aromatic for prayer and worship spaces — its biblical significance, combined with its fresh, grounding scent, makes it one of the most spiritually evocative oils in the Royal Oils collection.

A Word from Our Heart

When God wanted to paint a picture of His restorative love — His promise to turn wilderness into abundance — He chose myrtle. Not a rare tropical tree. Not a precious resin. A Mediterranean shrub, fragrant and gentle, that grows where others struggle. We offer this oil as a small, aromatic invitation to trust His promise: that He makes beautiful things in the wilderness, that He restores what was broken, and that even in the desert, He can plant myrtle.
